Nicaragua is hugely influenced by America, in many many ways. One of them being the way they talk. Here are a bunch of English words that are used all the time here:
Datashow(means a projector)
Powerpoint
Shorts
Jeans
Closet
Ride
Hotdog
Honron(Home Run. Pretty much all baseball vocab is the same )
DVD(but refers to the player)
USA(“Yoo-sa”)
Also, people's names are not your "typical" Hispanic names. Last names, yes, but first names are often interestingly taken from older American names. And because spelling is already iffy here, the spellings of names are not what you would think.
Some females names: Ingrid, Bertha, Doris, Helen, Lesbia, Flordelis, Indiana
Male names: Leonard(spelled Lenner), Joel, Freddi, Richard(spelled Richar), Denis, Edwin, Darwin, Herman, Melvin, Milton
And the other interesting names you find here are the "ing"s. Popular, and can be spelled with or without the g: Jahailing, Eyling, Yobeiling, Keyling(or Keylin. The one I know will write out her name either way), Beklin
I haven't met them, but I've also heard of people named Usaid(USAID, pronounced OOS iday) and Usnavy(USNAVY, pronounced OOS nahvay).
Anyways, just some food for thought.
