Myths in Nicaragua

1. After giving birth, only eat tortilla, a corn and cacao drink, and cuajada(the soft cheese)
2. Turn off the TV when there is lightening because the rays could electrocute you through the TV
3. Don´t watch TV or read at the end of your pregnancy because you will lose your vision
4. Don´t shower in the afternoon/at night because you will catch a cold
5. Don´t wash your face at night because it´s bad (probably linked to number 4)
6. No cold drinks with hot soups... ie no soda with soup
7. Super hot soup on a hot day
8. Women can´t eat eggs, beans, or citrus during their periods because they will smell

9. Only cut your hair on the full moon
10. If a black domestic animal crosses one way in front of you before a trip, good luck, but if it crosses the road back again, very bad luck
11. Salt in the belly button cures male UTI´s
12. Male birth control exists in the form of a monthly hormone injectio
(Some of these I haven´t heard personally, but I´ve heard from other volunteers)
